Let's not let this happen

Sure would be a shame if the 122-year-old Moline bluff home housing the Rock Island County Historical Society ends up with vinyl siding.
The always-cash strapped society, facing a $100,000 tab since the next paint jobs requires stripping layers of lead-based paint, sees vinyl as a way out of that cost and that of future paint jobs.
Let's not go to vinyl on this house, of all houses. Chip in for the paint work.
Contact the Rock Island County Historical Society and tell them you want to help. You'll feel good about it.
The Moline Preservation Society is taking an interest, too.

I can't pay $100,000 but I'd be willing to do some gratis scraping and painting, and I'll bring some friends. We can answer the question: How many volunteers does it take to scrape and paint a really big, really old house?

Great question, anonymous. Maybe the preservation society, which seems really concerned, could set up organizational framework that'd be needed to get the answer.

The society also should set up a fund for this project so that people like me, who may not be able to do the physical labor, can at least pitch in some $$$ for the paint and brushes.

Just tell me where to send the check and promise me that it's going to be used to keep the vinyl siding at bay.
